First, welcome to our Blog! I hope you have already read the introductory posting from Rick, our new Chief Marketing Officer, but I wanted to add my welcome and a few comments as well.
Because of Novetta’s heritage as a national security technology company, we have tended to stay off the screen when it comes to blogging and more public engagement. But as we have grown in recent years, we see many areas where our technologies, products and talented staff deserve more attention as a way to help clients and give back to the analytics community. So I’m quite excited to bring to light the leading expertise and impressive problem solving capabilities that Novetta has to offer the world via this medium.
You’ll notice the message “From Complexity to Clarity” on our website, acknowledging that the volume, variety, and velocity of data are increasing every day and the fact that commercial and government enterprises are struggling to extract value and gain clear insights from their data holdings. This is what we do best, and our name “Novetta,” which means 10 to the 27th power, or a “billion, billion, billion” reflects our big data heritage and ability to solve problems of massive scale, complexity, and national significance.
At Novetta we have super smart technologists from a broad spectrum of disciplines who employ fresh approaches to solve some of the most difficult challenges organizations face. In future posts here on the Novetta Blog you will hear directly from some of our team leads who will share their observations and insights in an effort to help clients and other analytics practitioners.
Our technologies and solutions all tie to advanced analytics at speed and scale as we have been working with some of the world’s largest data sets for customers who demand speed and security. We focus on three main areas with product offerings in each.
- Identity Analytics helps our customers uncover hidden insights buried in massive amounts of structured and unstructured data at speed. Our identity analytics offering runs natively on Hadoop, and we excel when clients need to cross-query and explore large disparate data sets that were never intended to be analyzed together.
- Cyber Analytics creates a comprehensive, coherent picture from network communications and external threat and enrichment data to make security teams dramatically more effective at combatting advanced threats. We help ‘network hunters’ operate much faster to significantly increase the likelihood of discovering hostile actors operating malware on a network.
- Social/Open Source Analytics helps customers extract, manage and understand data from social networks, public websites and traditional media sources, and thereby tie insights from these varied sources together. This emerging area of analytics allows organization to view problem sets from a new perspective and understand trends in sentiment and influence.
Our technologies and solutions are often disruptive in that they solve particularly tough problems not addressed by other enterprise offerings, but we are committed to help our customers leverage their existing enterprise investments—we embrace open source development, open APIs, and standardized hardware. And in our labs we are working on other cool areas of analytics like rich media indexing and cloud based data fusion – if there is a challenging analytics problem out there, we are working it. If this type of challenge or if any of the topics above sparks some interest, reach out to us–we are always happy to connect to discuss a problem. And if you are a fellow practitioner and want to work on some of these problems more directly, check out the career section of our website.
So, let me add my welcome to Rick’s as we launch the Novetta Blog. We hope you’ll be active on this site and engage the many experts who will contribute content. Thanks and talk to you soon!
One last note and a heads up: dating back to my Foreign Service experience in China, I have a long history in supporting cyber security efforts, so I’ll periodically be writing about cyber, a problem that continues to plague enterprises and cause billions of dollars in damage and lost productivity each year. Again, I hope to ‘meet’ you on our website or engage you in person at a future event.
