Novetta’s Leadership Development Program trains a select group of Novetta managers in the core competencies of leadership. Learn more from recent graduate of the Leadership Development Program’s Class of 2015, Project Manager Jessica Bazoalto.
In my last blog, I discussed several learning and growth opportunities Novetta offers. However, I intentionally omitted the Leadership Development Program (also affectionately referred to as the LDP). The Leadership Development Program, in its inaugural year at Novetta, is designed to provide mentorship and development opportunities for Novetta employees. This year 14 participants were chosen from 45 applicants. The program is based on peer to peer mentoring and guidance from senior executive leadership at Novetta and from the professional sphere within which Novetta operates (among others, the former Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, General Flynn, spoke to us).
I was fortunate enough to have been chosen to participate in the program and have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. We meet once a month for 10 months at Novetta’s headquarters location in McLean, VA. Those digs are enough to write an entire blog about—if you ever get the chance to visit, be sure to hit up the cappuccino machine for a triple espresso, hands down the best option! And as if that weren’t exciting enough, the program is both enriching and fun– yes, I said FUN!
The Vice President of Human Resources tailored the program especially for this year’s participants. Each person is paired with a peer from Novetta and it’s incumbent upon each peer group to determine the frequency and nature of the communication they wish to have. It allows for flexibility, ownership, and the power for us to decide how and what we want to get out of the relationship.
Apart from our peer groups, during our monthly meetings we are given insight into all aspects of business management, with topics ranging from finance to business development to performance management. After each meeting we share a wonderful meal with that day’s speaker. This means that over the past few months I’ve had dinner with Novetta’s CEO, CFO, VPs, lawyer, and a retired US Army General. Not bad if I do say so myself.
I’ve really enjoyed the direct, personal access to Novetta’s senior leadership and other leaders in the community, as well as getting to know all of the participants, some of whom I would not have had the opportunity to interact with outside of this program. We’ve exchanged stories, challenges, ideas, and made invaluable networking connections. Several of my coworkers have asked me if the program is “worth it,” or if I would recommend they should apply next year and my answer is always an enthusiastic “YES!”, followed by about a five-minute spiel on how great the program is. Now I also have a blog to share on the topic.
Congratulations to Jessica and the Novetta Leadership Development Program Class of 2015! Check out more pictures of the epic celebration on Facebook.
